Music and Art Flourish at The Renaissance School, a Montessori School in Oakland, California

OAKLAND, Calif., April 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The artistic accomplishments of The Renaissance School (TRS) students will be showcased at several upcoming spring events. The school is an international private Montessori school in Oakland, California with a strong music, arts and language immersion component.

Students are ages 2 years old through eighth grade. Their artwork will be on display for the community at The Renaissance School's 10th Annual Children's Art Show from June 10 through 23, 2012 at 54 Washington Street in Jack London Square in Oakland. The space has been donated by Jack London Square Ventures, LLC.

"The Renaissance School has had a long-standing relationship with Jack London Square and the city of Oakland," says Maina Howard, director of Community Development at TRS. "We appreciate their support."

The students' sculptures, textiles, paintings, photographs and more will be on display in a professional gallery setting with art from all age groups intermingled.

The Renaissance School's art curriculum allows children to explore, create and follow through on their artistic visions, develop skills and become comfortable in the art studio. The TRS art faculty is made up of professional, working artists.

Music Performances
The music curriculum at TRS is based upon the Kodaly Method of teaching and addresses the musical needs of children beginning in early childhood. Children participate in a choral ensemble, introduction to performance etiquette, instrumental lessons (piano, the recorder, oboe, violin and classical guitar) and music theory, appreciation and history.

Upcoming TRS performances open to the public:

  • Cantautori (TRS advanced vocal group) at Kodaly Children's Choral Festival, Holy Names University, Oakland, on Saturday, May 5. Vocal performances begin at 4:45 pm.
  • Instrumental Recitals. Primary students will perform on June 12 at 4 pm. Elementary and middle school students will perform on June 14 at 4 pm.
