We have been cooking up many delicious recipes in our classrooms. Cooking activities provide students with skills in academic areas such as math and science as well as offiering insight into different cultures. Providing children with an international and multidisciplinary experience is one of the founding principles of The Renaissance International School. Our school is an international community of teachers, students, and families.

Our Pre-Primary class learned about Iraq and made a white bean stew, and our Primary I class celebrated Israel and cooked a savory broccoli kugel. Here's the recipe:

Savory Broccoli Kugel Recipe

Ingredients:
6 cups fresh broccoli, cut into pieces
1 large yellow sweet onion, finely chopped
3 large garlic cloves, finely chopped
1/2 cup matzo meal
3 whole eggs, beaten
2 teaspoons ground parsley
salt and pepper

Procedure:

  1. .Preheat oven to 375°F Grease a 9 inch by 13 inch pan.
  2.  Mix the vegetables together in a medium sized bowl. In a smaller bowl beat the eggs with the seasonings. Add the egg mixture to the vegetables. And the matzo meal, and give it one final mix.
  3. Bake in oven for 45 minutes and serve warm.

We hope you'll try this at home.
