Walk silently through The Renaissance International School’s Cultural curriculum to gain a view of students’ work in the classroom.
Join The Renaissance International School’s (TRIS) faculty in ”A Silent Journey,” a unique “journey” through the Montessori school’s classrooms and experience the Montessori Cultural Materials, just as the students do on a daily basis.
The students at The Renaissance International School learn a great deal through silent observation, which leads to an increase in their level of interest and curiosity.
‘A Silent Journey” attendees will walk silently through the cultural curriculum in order to get a view of students’ work in the classroom and an understanding of the depth of the Montessori curriculum across many levels. Following the walk through, faculty will be available for discussion and to answer questions. Attendees are welcome to request a lesson from the teachers, just as the children do in the classroom.
“A Silent Journey” provides a view of students’ work in the classroom and of the depth of the Montessori curriculum across all levels of TRIS’s program. Parents who have participated in “A Silent Journey” say it is “fascinating, intriguing, mind-opening, helpful, fun and entertaining.”
Welcome to The Renaissance International School. Thank you for visiting our website.
In 1992, I founded A Child’s World Montessori School, which is today The Renaissance International School in Oakland, California. I founded the school to provide children with an international and multidisciplinary experience in which they can achieve their highest potential.
Since the school’s founding it has been based on the philosophies of Maria Montessori and Zoltán Kodály and is a warm, supportive community of students, families and teachers committed to a quality education. We have an enrollment of 165 students, from ages 2 through middle school.
Both our faculty and student body make up an international community with more than 30 different countries and nearly every ethnic group and major world religion represented.
Our course of study encompasses the full substance of the traditional curriculum, and then goes beyond to teach students how to think clearly, conduct their own research, express themselves effectively in writing and speech and incorporate all of this knowledge toward a practical application. Our curriculum also includes a strong music, arts and language immersion component. The Renaissance International School is the only genuine three-language immersion Montessori school in the nation.
We are essentially teaching children how to learn in order that they may develop into confident, capable and successful, happy people. We teach students to think, not simply to memorize, feed back, and forget. We also know that no two students learn at the same pace, nor do they necessarily learn best from the same methods. Our goal is to be flexible and creative in addressing each student as a unique individual.
We welcome all families and work closely with parents to foster our view of school as an extension of home. I invite you to visit and see our students working. We hold introductory school tours throughout the year. Tours are two hours, for adults-only and are held on select weekday mornings at 9:30 a.m.
